You are here

Chemistry

Music and Lyrics by Allen Ling
Arranged by Joel Behrman, Victor Little, Melissa Reese and Brain Mantia

From the color of your hair
To the way you caught my stare
You were special I can tell
Wish you knew the way I felt

And the color of your eyes
No they didn't quite match mine
Saw a softness in your lips
Need to feel them with a kiss

I never met someone like you
You're everything
I missed

CHORUS:
You and me
It's the right chemistry
Causing reactions inside of me
I thought you were just a dream

Stay with me
Breaking bonds
Release energy
I'm feeling stronger with every beat
Of my heart

We talked and then we danced
Took a walk became entranced
Said good bye to all our friends
You smiled at me and took my hand

Found a way to please the night
Heard the passion in our sighs
Turn the seconds into years
I didn't want to end it there

I'll never meet someone like you
It's plain to me
It's clear

CHORUS:
You and me
It's the right chemistry
Causing reactions inside of me
I thought you were just a dream

Stay with me
Breaking bonds
Release energy
I'm feeling stronger with every beat
Of my heart

BACKSTORY:
I met a woman when I was moonlighting as a clerk at a Family Fitness Center in Richmond in the early eighties. It was pure chemistry and there was no doubt that was all there was. Turned out she was married to some law enforcement officer who was prone to domestic violence. Wisdom prevailed,  I avoided permanent injury and death, and I also finally became more acutely aware that even married women were as susceptible (or more) as men to temptation.

As far the song, adding live horns was a marvelous idea (I think Brain or Cookie recommended it) and then trying out female versus male lead vocals. I think it works either way, although Melissa is a far better vocalist than I can ever aspire to be.
