Closer

Lyrics and Music by Allen Ling
Vocal arrangements by Allen Ling and Melissa Reese
Music arrangements by Melissa Reese and Brain Mantia

There was a boy
And there was a girl
He stayed at home
She changed the world

They lived so close
She traveled far
Whenever she left
He never could start getting closer
Afraid to hold her
Could not console her
And couldn’t get closure

I want to get closer
I just want to hold you
I want to get closure
You know that I love you

I want to get close
I want to get closer to your heart
I want to be
Your perfect lover
Start our lives over

There was a boy
Who loves this girl
She gave him hope
He changed her world

As they grew older
He became bolder
Both hands on her shoulders
That day he told her

I want to get closer
I just want to hold you
I want to get closure
You know that I love you

I want to get close
I want to get closer to your heart
I want to be
Your perfect lover
Start out lives over

I want to get close
I want to get closer to your heart
I want to be
Your perfect lover
Start out lives over

Ohh-Ohh-Ohhh
Ohh-Ohh-Ohhh
Ohh-Ohh-Ohhh
Ohh-Oh-Oh-Oh-Ohhh

Ohh-Ohh-Ohhh
Ohh-Ohh-Ohhh
Ohh-Ohh-Ohhh-Ohh-Ohhh

BACKSTORY:
I am not sure how to talk about what made me write this song without giving away too much of myself. I did start writing a song that was titled “Don’t Want To Get Closer” which was more R & B jazz format but in the 80’s, but then I turned it around into a ballad based on that popular wedding march song "Pachelbel Canon”.  As it turned out, it is probably the best love ballad I have ever written.  Enjoy it as much as I did when it was finished. I must have listened to it 200 times already.

We hired a string quartet which really added a very sweet element to the song. My good friend Mike Bemesderfer recommended I switch a verse and a bridge around so it tells more of a story.

I spent probably twice as much money producing “Closer” than any of the other songs, only because we added a video. Brain and Melissa worked so hard to make it sound so immaculate. We spared no expense really.
