Living at the Speed of Light

Original Lyrics & Music by Allen Ling
Arrangements by Melissa Reese and Brain Mantia

I was feeling so tired
At the end of my rope
On a wave of emotion
With my life in tow

Life becomes predictable
Get a job and a home
Marry someone so-so
So you won’t be alone

And she says:

“You better knock
You better rock
You better keep me second to no one
You keep it hot
Or I’ll be burning a line
Straight out of time”

Living at the Speed of Light
Tonight
That’s right
Living at the Speed of Light

I was feeling invincible
A champion of the world
Suddenly
Reality
Makes me lose my nerve

People live in a fantasy
Learn their lives from a book
Never using their brains
To take that second look

And HE said:

“You better knock
You better rock
You better keep me second to no one
You keep it hot
Or I’ll be burning a line
Straight out of time”

We’re Living at the Speed of Light
Tonight
That’s right
Living at the Speed of Light

We are living at the speed of light
Tonight
We are living at the speed of light
That’s right
We’re living at the speed of light, living at the speed of light tonight, living at the speed of light, living at the speed of light, tonight

BACK STORY:

I wrote this song before I got married the first time.  It was about life event programming, about feeling pressure into doing things before I was ready, or just doing what you are told to do without question.  It’s about religion, and questioning it, and about confidence in yourself to do what it right for your core happiness.

I couldn’t break my programming; there’s no telling what would have happened if I did. I have no regrets now, my life has come out better in many ways than I ever expected, but it was a rough journey.
