The Way It Was

Lyrics by Allen Ling Music by David Chew and John Polese
Arranged by  Meliisa Reese, Brain Mantia, and Carl Restivo

I recall
The memories in my mind
Some moments that I spent with love
The one I left behind

There used to be
A fantasy of mine
I thought could be my real life
I watched it fade with time

The Way it was
Let me go back
The way it was
Find the one that I lost
The way it was
Send me back across
The way it was

Woke up
In the middle of the night
Dreaming I was making love
It seemed like real life

No one to hold
I was all alone
Then it’s when I realized
No more running home

The Way it was
Let me go back
The way it was
Find the one that I lost
The way it was
Send me back across
The way it was

Don’t look back
Leave the past
Live for a brighter day
Don’t move fast
Love will last
Find it in every way

The Way it was
Let me go back
The way it was
Find the one that I lost
The way it was
Send me back across
The way it was

BACKSTORY:
Another old song from the 80’s, but written originally as a country song which I trashed until my friends David Chew and John Polese rewrote the song keeping the lyrics intact. They presented it to me as a birthday gift in the late 80’s and I broke down crying right in front of them.  I was having some issues with my relationships (yes that’s a plural) and trying to decide which way to go; my heart or my promise.  Anyone who knows me knows the choice I made back then.

We had the unplugged version, which Patrick really did excellent guitar work on. I wanted to have a power ballad 80’s style and Brian and Melissa obliged. Then we added Carl Restivo and more and more guitars to really thicken the arrangement, going over the top.
